Featuring a curated selection of 21 original artworks purchased from established and emerging artists, each with their own message around sustainability, inclusion and more.
May 24, 2022 (Ottawa, ON) – Altis Recruitment today announced Art for Impact, an online art auction presented by Altis CEO and co-founder Kathryn Tremblay to raise funds for The Ottawa Hospital’s new campus development. Featuring a unique collection of 21 original works—curated by three local galleries and purchased from artists in Ottawa and across Canada—the auction kicks off today, with bids accepted for one week.
Tremblay purchased all 21 works through the company’s charitable arm, The Tremblay Guimaraes Family Foundation, and will donate 100 per cent of the proceeds from the auction to The Ottawa Hospital Foundation. To honour the artists featured, each was paid in full for their artwork.
“I’m thrilled to give back to The Ottawa Hospital—a pillar of our entire community—while supporting many diverse, local artists through this meaningful event,” said Tremblay. “When my husband and co-founder Toni Guimaraes was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in 2014, the team at The Ottawa Hospital provided him with excellent care, and today, I’m delighted to help them care for others at the proposed new campus.”
Tim Kluke, the President and CEO of The Ottawa Hospital Foundation, said it’s an incredible partnership bringing together the art world and philanthropy. “This is a tremendous way to pay tribute to Toni Guimaraes, to support the next generation of healthcare, and to celebrate artists here in Ottawa and across the country. We’re truly grateful to Altis Recruitment and for the generosity we’ll no doubt see through this online auction.”
The auction will be held in memory of Toni Guimaraes, who eventually passed away from his illness in 2016. Throughout his career, Guimaraes had faced many hurdles as a newcomer from Portugal and was always determined to support Canada’s diverse communities. The works in this auction were intentionally chosen with this goal in mind.
Carrie Colton, Gallery Principal at Studio Sixty Six, volunteered her time and expertise, working with curators at two other local galleries, Wall Space and Galerie St-Laurent + Hill, to choose the mix of works ranging in price from $450 to $4950. The collection includes paintings, photography, ceramic sculpture and textile pieces made by emerging and established artists from diverse backgrounds and communities, each with a unique focus—whether to take better care of our environment, foster greater equity and inclusion or admire the beauty of nature. All three participating galleries discounted their professional fees as a donation to this important cause.
“The Ottawa Hospital is a big part of life for most people in this city, and especially so for my family,” said Colton. “My son, who has a chronic illness, has been treated there by an amazing healthcare team for the past 13 years, so I’ve seen firsthand how hard everyone works, how essential these professionals are and how excited they are at the prospect of working in a more modern facility with greater capacity. I’m proud to support this cause while raising awareness of the incredible artistic talent we have in this community.”
The week-long auction will be housed and run on The Ottawa Hospital Foundation site: https://ohfoundation.ca/get-involved/art-for-impact. Bids will start at 75% of the market value for each artwork and will be accepted from May 24, 2022 at 8:00 a.m. ET until the auction closes on May 30, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. ET.
