Your Strategic Partner in Talent Acquisition
Why you’ll love working with us
- We aren’t just a partner--we’re an extension of your business and brand. We act as your external HR department, supporting you from the initial role design to hiring and beyond. And we don’t stop searching and vetting candidates until you’re satisfied with your new hire.
- We’re consultative, sharing what we learn through our candidates, along with the latest trends in your industry.
- We adapt to your hiring needs. Whether you’re hiring a permanent employee or contract/temporary resources, we can help. We also support you with converting contract resources to permanent roles and provide payroll services as needed.
- We’re communicative, keeping you informed as our search progresses and advising you on how best to position your role to attract top candidates.
- We put our whole team behind you... and our extensive network of 900,000+ candidates across all skills, too. In fact, we find many of our placements through referrals because, as they say, good people know good people.
- We work onshore, in Canada to locate talent ready to start delivering now.
- We go beyond the resumé, looking for unique attributes in each candidate, presenting only our top choices and explaining in detail why we selected each one.
- We validate candidates before you hire. See below.
- We balance speed with quality. See below.
We validate our candidates
Since many of today’s candidates use ChatGPT and other AI applications to write their resumés and cover letters, it can be hard to tell if someone’s the real deal. Rest assured, we take the time to validate skills and experience and verify that each candidate is what they claim to be.
- We interview every candidate face to face (either in person or over video).
- We go beyond the standard interview. We assess on-the-spot thinking by asking unique questions that we co-develop with you—things not covered in the job ad.
- We verify all credentials, including designations, education and more.
- We provide testing and screening (on request), including in-depth technical and competency-based screening assessments.
- We conduct a range of checks (when appropriate), using a third party to do background, criminal and credit checks.
- We check references prior to all employment offers.
We balance speed with quality
Sometimes our clients need to move quickly, and we’ll meet them where they are.
However, while we work faster than others in our industry, we won’t sacrifice quality for speed; we always conduct a full search and validate each candidate before submitting our shortlist. This is how we’ve become one of the best staffing agencies for finance and accounting.
In a rush? These factors impact the speed of our search:
- The job title and technologies in use
- Total compensation, including salary, vacation, benefits
- Work model (remote/hybrid/onsite)
- Years of experience required in specific sectors/industries
We strive to meet the following timelines:
- 5-7 business days from initial search to first interview (permanent hires)
Note: For unique roles that require extensive searching and tapping our referral network, the timeline may be longer. We communicate with you at every step and share the results of our search as we progress.
- 3-5 business days from initial search to first interview (temporary hires)

10 finance & accounting trends we’re seeing
New technologies are changing finance jobs across all sectors—non-profit, healthcare, the public sector and more. For example, the increased use of AI and automation means data analysis, financial reporting and data security roles are becoming even more crucial.
Core skills required for financial planning and analysis (FP&A) are increasingly in demand, particularly those related to business intelligence (BI), including advanced analytics, big data integration and modelling, and real-time reporting. And for larger organizations that handle extensive amounts of data, we’re seeing an increased need for professionals who can collaborate across the business, assess data and determine how to align financial plans with the organization's overall strategy (i.e., Strategic Business Partnering).
We find that payroll jobs at all levels require extra searching and deeper screening because top talent in this field tends to avoid job-hopping, so the candidate pool is small. It’s important to entice these professionals to consider your role.
As more companies develop their Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategies, we’re seeing increased demand for CFOs who can guide their companies toward sustainability, drive ESG reporting and manage ESG risk.
Altis is a certified diverse supplier, certified woman-owned business (WBE), recognized member of the Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion (CCDI) and a member of the Federal Contractors Program (FCP). With All-Inclusive Diversity as one of our guiding principles, we commit to fostering greater equity in the workplace and in society as a whole. We actively look for ways to connect with and support members of underrepresented groups, whether through our paid Newcomer Apprenticeship Program, community giving initiatives or partnerships with community-minded organizations. This enables us to conduct a deep search and present a diverse slate of candidates that supports our clients in meeting a range of DEI objectives. For example, gender parity in senior leadership roles, increased participation of underrepresented groups in management and more. Learn more.
As technology becomes more integral to accounting processes and more companies switch to cloud-based accounting platforms, protecting financial data from cyber threats and ensuring the integrity of financial systems is becoming more important. Read: People with skills in these areas are increasingly in demand.
With AI taking on more time-consuming, routine tasks like reconciliations and invoice processing, many entry-level roles in finance and accounting are disappearing, making it more difficult for professionals to develop the required skills to progress in their careers. Likewise, the increased use of robotic process automation (i.e., software robotics) to perform tasks like extracting data, filling in forms and moving files means less demand for F&A professionals who would normally perform these tasks.
Between 2016 and 2022, the Association of International Chartered Professional Accountants (AICPA) saw a 40% drop in new students sitting for the CPA exam. Result? This shortage of CPA-designated professionals makes it even more challenging to find qualified candidates. That’s where we come in!
As technologies change and Canada’s regulatory landscape evolves, continuous training and upskilling are critical for all finance professionals, including designated accountants. We’re seeing more CPAs and Finance Directors turning to seminars and classes to learn about the latest tax and compliance requirements, ensuring they apply current standards in their day-to-day decision-making.
