Mental health is on everyone’s mind right now. We may be feeling fear, stress, worry, or isolation – this is natural in a situation that is beyond our control. Here are a few tips for mental wellness from our team…
1 – FIND TIME TO UNPLUG
Set aside time to unplug from all electronics, including phone, tablets and computers. Disconnect from social media outlets. This isn’t something we all do naturally so you may need to schedule “unplugged time” into your day. One of our team members said that she intentionally doesn’t look at her phone past 8:30pm so she can have a break before bed.
2- PRACTICE RELAXATION AND MEDITATION
Relaxation strategies can help reduce or manage your levels of stress and anxiety. There are many options to consider including:

- Headspace, meditation and mindfulness techniques

3- SEEK SUPPORT
Social distancing doesn’t mean breaking off all contact – think of it more as physical distancing rather than social distancing. Being alone can lead to spending too much time thinking about the current situation, resulting in increased stress and anxiety. Make an effort to connect with people who are a positive influence on you. Thanks to technology it’s easy to still feel connected during this time. Here are 3 apps our team is using to connect with family and friends via video chat:
4- EAT HEALTHY
Eating healthy can help us feel better mentally and physically. When we are stressed, people might choose comfort foods that are not good for stress and overall health. As much as is possible, choose fruits and vegetables, and drink lots of water. Consider signing up for a healthy meal service like Good Food or Hello Fresh to make sure you are eating a well-balanced meal.
5- GET PROPER REST AND SLEEP
Getting enough sleep can both help reduce the amount of stress we experience and prepare us to better manage stress. Here are some tips on how to get a better night’s sleep.
6 – STAY ACTIVE
Physical activity is a great way to reduce stress and anxiety, and improve mood and overall health. If you are self-isolated, find ways to exercise in your home. One of our teams has been doing daily step challenges. Our CEO’s daughter has also been offering lunchtime workout sessions via Zoom for anyone interested.
