With millions of people impacted by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, including our own team member Maryna Skobal and her family, the Altis Recruitment team wanted to help in a meaningful way.

To support Ukrainian newcomers to Canada in their job search, our team has put together a series of helpful resources, including tips on formatting a resume for the Canadian job market, using popular job search sites, preparing for interviews – and many more to come.

Step 1: Prepare your resume for the Canadian market

Before applying for roles in Canada, you’ll need a resume that is optimized for the Canadian market. To help newcomers from Ukraine, we’ve summarized some Canadian resume tips and best practices–both in terms of content and layout—on our blog.

Step 2: Register as a candidate with staffing firms

In Canada, there is NO FEE to register as a candidate with a staffing firm. In fact, it’s against the law to charge a candidate a fee. We encourage you to register with two or three recruitment firms, including Altis Recruitment. Recruiters often have access to job postings that aren’t publicized and will help you find the best opportunities for you. Here’s how to register with our firm:

Note: We connect more than 8,500 candidates–including many newcomers–with jobs every year, placing entry-level, intermediate and senior executives in the areas of Finance & Accounting, HR, Marketing & Communications, Construction and IT. Please note that we do not place trades-workers, drivers or workers in retail or hospitality (for example, restaurant or tourism staff).

Step 3: Register with job search platforms and start your search

In addition to registering with recruitment firms, we recommend creating a profile and uploading your resume on multiple job search platforms such as LinkedIn, Indeed, Monster and more. This will ensure your search is as broad as possible, raise your visibility and, ultimately, help you find work faster. Learn more here.

Please know that we’re here to support you in all aspects of your job search in Canada.
